Watch Dale Earnhardt Jr. cruise around in his incredible gift from Talladega track
As tracks continue to dish out farewell gifts to Dale Earnhardt Jr. during his final season before retiring, it's not surprising that Talladega Superspeedway – the track where he's won the most races in his Cup Series career – went all out.
The Alabama track is also known as Earnhardt Country thanks to Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s all-time best 10 wins, plus Junior's second-best six. Recognizing the impact the family has had on the area as well as the track itself, the superspeedway gave Dale Jr. a car.
But it's not just any car. It's a No. 2 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Senior drove in his 1979 rookie season and in 1980 during his first Cup Series title season. Obviously, Junior took it for a spin around the 2.66-mile track.
Nothing like getting a gift you can drive around in. This even tops Musket Dale.
More about the car from USA TODAY Sports:
The car belongs to the Motorsports Hall, which is located on Talladega Superspeedway property. The hall facility is operated by the state of Alabama, so the car technically will remain property of the hall, but officials said Earnhardt will have it on “permanent loan” and can use it as he pleases — for displays, special events, etc.
“I love to be able to sit in the car and just see the perspective — what the view was like,” Earnhardt said Friday.
